Places to visit in Andaman and Nicobar Islands

Arrival at Andaman

Besides having so many beaches in my country, India, I loved to roam on the beaches of Andaman and Nicobar. It’s an island located in the Bay of Bengal. We went there and were welcomed by army officers. The airport is situated in the army location. Those big dogs and their big teeth, can’t even explain what it was like. According to them, we reached our hotel, it was 4-star, according to them, but it wasn’t that good at all. We were there for 6 days and 5 nights, a lot of time enjoy at beaches.

Lighthouse saw us bright

I will say, you must visit Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Island. You will see deers, peacocks, and many others. Also, there’s a big history of the Indian army. You will see army barracks, House of chief, Justice court, and many other historic buildings. Also, a beautiful lighthouse is there with a narrow passage to visit it which is surrounded by sea.

History of Andaman

First, we decided to visit the jail, The Cellular Jail. The most visited place and only place to visit is Port Blair. We went inside the jail, it was too big. When it was built, it was having 7 buildings but when we went there only 5 were left and, and we were allowed to visit only two of them. Our guide informed us about the history. Like, how it was built, who all came here, what kind of punishments were given to the Indians, and what kind of work they used to do. There was a tree, they said it saw the jail built and still is alive here to tell us the whole story. Then, at night, we saw a program in which the narrator was telling us the story of the jail.

 Swaraj deep welcomed us

One of the most important and beautiful beaches of the Andaman group is Havlock or Swaraj dweep. Few beaches are full of corals and few are just with the beautiful water. We went there for 2 days. The Havlock was found by English peoples and was used as a visiting place for them. No Indian was allowed to visit there. That island is just for beaches and coconuts. You may find a lot of corals there. The clean and fresh ones. You may also buy them from the shops.

Peoples from the Island

Since it is located so far and had been populated by the prisoners, there aren’t many people there. But all those are who are there are too good in nature. Many of them understand English, Hindi, and Tamil. And the most important thing, they do work there as servant or seller but they don’t greed for money. What is most important for them is their self-respect. Don’t ever hurt them.

Why is a coral island full of corals?

We went to an island named North Sentinel Island. That island was full of corals. We were allowed to do many water activities there, like, scuba diving, snorkeling, glass boat, and many others. We went snorkeling. It’s like scuba diving. They gave us masks and few diving gears. We were floating on the water, since we were having a glass mask on our faces we were able to see underwater. The fishes, corals, and few more animals. You remember, the fish Nemo from the movie, Finding Nemo? I saw it there and the Dory on too. The swimmers were holding us and were pulling us to see more fishes. We were only floating and were seeing the fishes. There wasn’t a good spot to change our clothes. But it was ok.

 Is it a nightmare?

We returned back to Port Blair. No internet, bad service. It was like we came to a place where no one lives. How can one even live without the internet? But it was an amazing experience to live without a network. No phone calls, no Whatsapp, just me and nature.

 Now out of the sea

Our 6 days ended, now time to return. The airport wasn’t that big, but full of peoples and watchdogs. The security people stopped us because we were carrying corals which were collected from the beach. It is the law of Andaman and Nicobar that no one should carry corals that aren’t bought from the shops. We were asked to leave them, sad. We fastened our seat belts. And the flight took off.
